I can’t believe there is actual photographic evidence that my sister played a game of basketball. This is fantastic!
Pick-Up with the Pee Wees!
Playing with the dog at a park in Portland, we found a basketball. After perfecting our butt passes, taking pictures of each others’ eyeballs, and deciding that hitting the rim is definitely worth points, we were feeling a lot like we’d been transported back to middle school recess.
Further evidence presented itself in the form of 3 tiny dudes who challenged us to a game. They wanted to have captains and pick teams, which I took for a sure sign that they wanted Kevin—our 6’5” friend—on their side. Wrong. The tiny team captain picked his friend and his younger brother, Lucas, who barely came up to Kevin’s waist. We were giants playing tiny tots.
I was expecting to humor them, not actually play against them. But, the competition was fierce, we kept at it for an hour, ended in a tie, and had a sudden death shoot-out. A high-five circle, good job everybody, and a tunnel train celebrated our new friendship just as it let loose with pouring rain. Thank you Ethan for taking the action shots featured here!
And a few more highlights:
“Oh man! Lucas steamrolled me!”
Christine sprawled in the gutter going after the ball—all heart.
“—Why isn’t your friend playing?
—She plays pro, so she has to rest up.
—REALLY???”
“Oh. Here. It’s your ball. I double dribbled.”
“Lucas can double dribble.”
I can’t believe there...actual photographic...my sister...
